Games I like and Why

Hi dear reader of this elaborated not yet finished and forever incomplete list of gaming material. I will try to list things I like here, explaining shortly why I like them and how they influenced me.
  1. GURPS: Well I have been a GURPS GM for over 20 years till I discovered Dungeon World, Jason Morningstar's Fiasco, John Harper's Many small mini RPGs (& Blades in the Dark) and other Stuff going on after 2010 came and go. GURPS still has a place in my heart as most of the traits and ability costs and tables are still engraved into my very mind. I started with it to be GM at age 8 in that very weird year of 1995. I imidately ditched D&D, The Dark Eye (DSA), Shadowrun and Vampire for it. As you can see I was then already a Game Hacker at heart and used it to create my first campaign world: Arden.
  2. Dungeons & Dragons: It is important here not only as the primary oldest RPG, but also as a sign of all that I DONT want from my game designs. Feature bloat, generic genres, mass market. It is just not making my feel anything. 5E looks great, but I feel no need nor fire to game it.
  3. OSR: I may not be a huge fan of the current mainstream D&D but I am a huge fan of the extremely creative DIY RPG scene which put out many great games and experiments. Its simply a blast to watch and read all the creative outbursts there.
  4. Story Games: Its a weird term, some may like it, some not. Whatever. I like telling stories and a lot of games from this movement have challenged me to think a lot about gaming itself. Same as with OSR, its not really an uniform movement but rather a ideal or viewpoint from which new games are written and created.

To be continued.
